Poem: Appalachian Roots

Amazing Appalachian Scenes across NE Tennessee

“Appalachian Roots”
An original poem written by Stacey Louiso
October 2, 2024  (In the aftermath of Helene…)

Oh, how beautiful are thine rolling peaks and deep forested hollars.

Your people, rich in heritage and big in heart.

Their feet, tread the ground beneath understanding it as cherished.

The earth you span tells the tale of your ancient wisdom

Wisdom, imparted to those who listen; those who work the plow and wipe sweat from their brow.

Oh, your peaks may not be majestic but a certain mystery resides in their mist.

Oh, Appalachia, the strength of your mountains, valleys, and people will never die away.

Those born into your Appalachian roots – long and strong in fertile ground – carry these attributes forth, instilling such instincts into their generations.

And they know, as history has repeated itself time and time again, they normally stand alone, yet together, through adversity.

Oh, Appalachia, the strength of your mountains, valleys, and people will never die away.

  1. It’s simply amazing! While I haven’t read much English poetry, I’ve written poetry in our language, particularly in the form of Ghazal, so I’m familiar with the deep emotions and beautiful formations in this art. It is truly a blessing to see such heartfelt expressions. It reminds me about your faithfulness and that you are protected into the Precious Hands of our Almighty Heavenly Father YHVH.

    Blessings to you always.

    Yours Brother,
    Moon Gulzar
